The materials that our group will be putting into the Eco-column will be moist soil from a fertilizing plant so that the soil will have good nutrients in it.

We will also put a small fern into our Eco-column so that it will produce a good amount of oxygen for the organisms to survive.

We will add water from Zeekoevlei so that our Eco-column can produce water for the soil to stay moist and for plants to grow.

Our last thing that we will add is Earthworms to provide nutrients for the soils when an organism dies
Out.

Our group consists of Jeremy Hudson, Jordan Nel and Luke Viljoen.
Jeremy and I feel very hard done by at the fact that Luke Viljoen has not contributed,
to this project in what so ever form.

When we built the Eco-column at my house he did not show up and help.
We tried to design and build our Eco-column during open period where he also didnt show up. This also happened in many other aspects of our project.

Therefore we feel that he should not get any marks due to his lack of effort.

Jeremy and Jordan (Luke did not participate in this activity)
made the Eco-Column by cutting up three Coke bottles
and then stacking them on top of each other.

We drilled nails into the wooden platform and then into wooden stakes to make a secure
hold for our Eco-column.

We also added water from Zeekoevlei so that ther is lots of life teeming in the water.
We got moist soil from a nursery so that the soil has lots of nutrients in it for healthy plant growth.

A host of other living organisms was added to the Eco-column such as: snails, ants,
earth worms, fern and a cactus.

Our Food Chain

This will be one of our food chains in our Eco-column.
Fern Leaves Earth Worms Snail

I think that our Eco-column will be self susteaining over a period of 8 weeks because the spot that our Eco-column is placed in has a good sunlight spot which will help plant growth.

We also have healthy moist soil which is a sign of good nutrients in the soil.

Earth worms were also added to decompose any dead organisms and that releases nutrients back into the soil. At the Terra zone we have a small fern will will produce healthy amounts of oxygen for all the organisms to survive.

We have also added snails to the Eco-column and the snails will feed off the worms and the worms will feed off the decomposed leaves and plants.
